Church Cemetery

Active Members of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church may purchase burial space in the cemetery or columbarium area for themselves and their immediate family. Immediate family is defined as legal spouse, parent, sibling, or child of member and/or in-laws of members.

Individual Certificates of Ownership will be issued for each space in the name of each designated individual at the time of purchase.

Purchased spaces may not be re-sold, or inherited, and are not transferable other than by Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.

Bethlehem Presbyterian Church does not give any refund for unused space.

Unused space reverts back to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church when relinquished by the Owner by action or circumstance.

Burial vaults are required for caskets. Vaults and burial urns must be made of bronze or similar permanent-type materials.

Compatible headstones must be purchased by the family and placed by
professionals within 12 months of burial. For the columbarium, compatible
engraved markers are required within 12 months of the memorial service. All markers must be contained within the designated space.

Monuments and markers must be placed on concrete foundations. Foundations for above ground markers must be flush with ground level. Foundations for flush ground markers must be below ground level so the marker sits flush with ground level.

Families must maintain headstones and markers, and repair or replace any that are deteriorating or damaged.

No curbing, fencing, hedging, borders or enclosures of any kind will be allowed around any burial space.

Funeral Directors will be responsible for all excess earth and damages to
grounds. No graves will be mounded.

Old flowers and containers must be removed by family from Church property and not discarded on adjacent areas.

Funeral and/or memorial services must be coordinated with the Pastor and the Cemetery Committee designee.

Families are responsible for all funeral and/or memorial service arrangements and expenses.

Owners of cemetery space will be responsible to notify the Cemetery Committee of Bethlehem Church of any change of postal address. Notice sent to the last address of any cemetery space owner will be sufficient and proper legal notification. All applicable Virginia law related to funerals must be respected.

The cost for each space in the cemetery and the columbarium is subject to
change without notice by the Session. If you an Active Member interested in
purchasing a burial space for you and your family, please contact our Cemetery Committee Designee below.

Exceptions to these rules can only be granted by formal action of the Session of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church upon recommendation by the Cemetery Committee.
