Susie Atkinson is a native Virginian and a cradle Presbyterian. She is married to Bill Atkinson, a retired wood products sales representative. They have two children – Tracy, a professional counselor in Richmond, who is married to Julie and together have two sons, Preston and Vaughn, and Angie, a singer/songwriter, who lives in Los Angeles, CA. They now live in Richmond with their two “fur babies,” Stormy and Sunny.
Susie graduated from Union Theological Seminary and PSCE (now Union Presbyterian Seminary) in 2004 and has served churches in MD and VA. She also served as chaplain through the intern program at Virginia Commonwealth Medical Center and as director of campus ministry at Mississippi State University for 10 years. Before accepting the call to Bethlehem, she served Tabor Presbyterian Church in Crozet, VA, as a covenant minister for a year. While in Crozet, she participated in WAMA, the local Ministerium and in the Ministers for Peace march on August 12, 2017 in Charlottesville which led to multiple discussion groups both in Crozet and Charlottesville.
When Susie is not reading and preparing for worship, she likes swimming, bicycling, watching and reading mysteries, and playing with her grandsons. Susie is excited to be here at Bethlehem PC and looks forward to the challenge of preparing the church for the search and call of a new pastor to lead this congregation.
